Successful conclusion of ICCD`s panel discussion “The Way Towards a Sustainable Future”, at Expo 2020 Dubai.

          ICCD is honored to announce the successful conclusion of it’s “The Way towards a Sustainable Future” panel discussion, that took place with the sponsorship of Al Baraka Forum, on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the world`s largest Exhibition “Expo 2020 Dubai”, under the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. 

          “The Way towards a Sustainable Future” panel discussion has been held as part of ICCD`s efforts towards achieving sustainable development, and in line with international efforts to strike balance between maximizing economic potentials and addressing environmental issues.

 

 

         The panel discussion started with the opening speech of H.E. Mr. Yousef H. Khalawi, ICCD Secretary General, and included a number of distinguished speakers who addressed the main pillars of sustainable development and the ways to achieve it through creating a clean environment and a more inclusive & productive economy.

          In the context of the current global attention on energy transformation and its crucial role in achieving sustainable development, H.E. Mr. Hisham bin Mohammed Kaaki, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, & Chairman of the Board of Directors of Makkah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, pointed out to KSA`s initiatives & efforts to preserve environment & climate mitigation, most notably NEOM’s industrial city, known as OXAGON, which is the world`s largest floating industrial city, indicating that it would be a center for clean industries with zero based emitters, through working with 100% clean energy. 

           As part of transformation towards a sustainable future, through which the concept of green economy has received a great deal of global attention, as a tool for achieving sustainable production & consumption and protecting ecosystems, Dr. Mohammed Alyami, Director of Development & Effectiveness Department, ICD, stressed the importance of green economy as one of the initiatives to achieve the sustainable development goals.

           In addition, Dr. Farrukh Habib, Fintech expert, and Co- Founder, Shariah Experts- London & Alif Technologies- Dubai, added that Islam Religion acknowledged the importance of green economy before any other initiative over the history. And in this regard, Ms. Maali Qasem Khader, CEO & Founder of Schema Advisory, pointed out to the Environmental & Social Governance (ESGs) and its crucial & effective role in achieving sustainability.

            The session also highlighted the importance of global cooperation towards sustainability, which has been addressed by H.E. Mr. Vladimir Platonov, President of Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who discussed the exerted efforts by the chamber, in collaboration with other Russian & global institutions, to promote sustainable development, stressing that the world must join forces to create a sustainable economy.

 

 

 

          During the proceedings of “The Way Towards a Sustainable Future” panel discussion, it was stressed that the regulations & laws must be adjusted to support sustainable development, which the moderator of the panel Dr. Elena Ageeva, Deputy Chairman in strategic development, Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, referred to.

          Dr. Amjad Alhalaweh, Senior Formulation Scientist at Qlinea, Member of Uppsala Life Science Sustainability, Network Supervisor of master and PhD students at Uppsala University, Sweden, also stressed the need of more regulatory forces to preserve the environment for the upcoming generation and hence achieve sustainability.

         ICCD`s panel discussion “The Way towards a Sustainable Future” is a reinforcing step to promote & enhance sustainable development across its member countries, through giving the attendees & participants an opportunity to identify interactive partnerships & opportunities to build the future, and encouraging the participation of all the concerned parties in achieving a clean environment & a more advanced & productive economy, through an open dialogue session among a selection of distinguished economic & development experts from all over the world.
