Second Session: Artificial Intelligence: The Optimal Way towards Sustainable Environment

Wednesday, February 22, 2023

          10 am GMT

Description:

In the midst of the rising environmental threats faced by the whole world, there is a non-dispensable role that Artificial Intelligence can perform, by providing promising solutions to these threats and challenges, contributing to achieving environmental sustainability and enhancing climate mitigation.

In this respect, several consulting firms put forward estimates of the environmental impacts of AI applications; Boston Consulting Group (BCG) estimates that AI applications could help eliminate 2.6 to 5.3 gigatons of GHG emissions (5- 10% of total emissions) and generate USD 1.3 to 2.6 trillion in value in revenues and cost savings through corporate sustainability by 2030, while Capgemini estimated that AI could reduce GHG emissions by 16% and improve power efficiency by 15% by 2025, and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) estimated that AI could reduce GHG emissions by 4%, or 2.4 gigatons by 2030. (OECD Digital Economy Papers, November 2022, No. 341*).

This conducts us to explore various mechanisms of using AI responsibly to create a sustainable environment. Therefore, ICCD is organizing its webinar entitled “Artificial Intelligence: The Optimal Way towards Sustainable Environment”, as part of its Leadership Talks Series, in order to crystalize the pivotal role of AI in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.

Join us on Wednesday, 22nd of February 2023, in ICCD’s webinar “Artificial Intelligence: The Optimal Way towards Sustainable Environment”, which will shed light on the following points:
– The impact of AI on the environment, and how it can be used to booster environmental sustainability.
– Challenges facing various entities, specially across OIC member countries, in applying AI in a way that preserves the environment.
– Best AI practices paving the way to achieve a future with net-zero carbon emissions.
