The meeting of H.E. ICCD Secretary General with H.E. Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia
Within the framework of ICCD`s strenuous efforts towards supporting the Islamic economy and enhancing its resilience to confront various crises and challenges, H.E. Mr. Yousef Khalawi, Secretary-General of ICCD, met with H.E. Dr. Ma’ruf Amin, Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, on Thursday, September 8, 2022, in the office of the Vice President in Jakarta, Indonesia, aiming at exploring aspects of joint cooperation between the two parties in various economic and developmental fields.
The visit ICCD`s Secretary General to Indonesia came within the framework of the G20 presidency of Indonesia, aiming to explore prospects of ICCD`s participation in the “B20 Indonesia”, as a solid step towards creating a more sustainable and prosperous global economic future.
Out of the enormous potential and resources of the OIC countries that will contribute to strengthening the Islamic economy around the world, the meeting tackled ICCD`s efforts to optimize the available resources of its member countries, for serving the developmental purposes and promoting all the sectors of Islamic economy and finance.
Furthermore, H.E. Mr. Yousef Khalawi, ICCD Secretary General, highlighted Indonesia’s pivotal role in this context, as the Islamic world`s most populous country, and based on its enormous potentials, that enable it to play a leading role in the global economic development.
In this regard, H.E. Dr. Ma’ruf Amin, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, stressed the need to optimize the available resources and potentials in the Islamic world, as one of the most important pillars to strengthen the Islamic economy at the global level, praising ICCD`s efforts in strengthening the bonds of cooperation aiming at advancing economic development across its member states in general, and developing the Islamic economy around the world in particular. His Excellency also pointed out the efforts of the Sharia Economics and Finance Committee (KNEKS) to develop the Sharia economy all over the world.
In addition, His Excellency praised the constructive cooperation between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, highlighting their crucial role in achieving common development goals of Indonesia and the countries of the Islamic world.
The meeting also addressed ICCD`s endeavor to develop 10 business hubs throughout the Islamic world, including Indonesia, in order to support the representation of these countries in the global business world, attract more investments and advance economic development.
Considering the growth and prosperity of halal industry around the world, and its pivotal role in developing the Islamic economy, the two parties agreed on the importance of the halal Industrial zones that were built in the Republic of Indonesia within the framework of the strategic steps undertaken by the Indonesian government in order to serve the world`s Muslims.
In this regard, His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia welcomed ICCD`s project to establish commercial and investment hubs in the countries of the Islamic world. He also stressed the need to attract more investments to these regions, and standardize halal products in the world, with the aim of facilitating the process of exporting and importing halal products.
The meeting of H.E. ICCD Secretary General with H.E. Vice-Presidet of the Republic of Indonesia came as a cornerstone for promoting economic growth and advancing the development of all OIC Member States, furthering its constant commitment to achieve sustainable progress across its member states in various aspects of life.
About ICCD:
Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development is an international institution affiliated of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It represents the private sector of 57 member countries of OIC, as well as observer members and other associate members from Muslim minorities. ICCD aims at strengthening cooperation among its member states in the areas of trade, Industry, and information technology, and promoting Investment opportunities and joint- projects among member states. Its membership consists of national chambers, unions, councils of chambers of commerce and industry in OIC member states.
ICCD was established based on the decision of the Seventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, which took place In May, 1976 in Istanbul, Turkey. And was adopted by the first conference of chambers of commerce and industry in the Islamic world countries, which also held in Istanbul, Turkey in Oct., 1977.
Later, the constitution of ICCD was passed by the second conference of chambers of commerce and Industry in Islamic world countries, which held in Dec., 1978 in Karachi. Its headquarters in Karachi, the economic capital of the Republic of Pakistan.
